The College of Engineering holds a training course entitled “Techniques for Strengthening and Reinforcing Structural Elements”
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Professor Dr. Bassem Abdul Hussein Jarallah, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Jabbar Hayawi, the Department of Civil Engineering, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, holds a training course entitled “Techniques for Strengthening and Consolidating Structural Elements” on the day Tuesday, 11/3/2026.
Preparing and delivering lecturers:
M. D. A returning bell farmer
M. D. Muhammad Abdel Baqir Janam
M. M. Ahmed Abdel Hussein Jawad

The course discussed the latest engineering methods and techniques used in treating and rehabilitating damaged concrete structures and raising their structural efficiency.
The course included a review of the reasons for the need to strengthen facilities and the factors influencing the choice of treatment and strengthening methods, as well as an introduction to the most prominent modern technologies used in this field, including enlarging structural sections, metal sheets, external post-stress, shotcrete, and polymer techniques reinforced with carbon and glass fibres.
The course also witnessed the presentation of an applied study for the design and strengthening of concrete columns using carbon fiber (CFRP) in accordance with the requirements of the American Code (ACI 440-2R:08), clarifying the computational steps and verifying the resistance of the columns and their ability to bear loads.
The course aimed to enhance the scientific knowledge and engineering skills of the participants and introduce modern technical solutions that contribute to extending the service life of facilities and improving their efficiency and structural safety.
