Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Girls, Prof. Dr. Afrah Abd Maktouf Al-Ghazi, the College of Education for Girls held an in-person scientific workshop entitled:
"Internal Control and Auditing in Universities: A Framework for Reducing Financial and Administrative Corruption", presented by Lect. Dr. Jain Yasser Hussein, Director of the college's Legal Division, at ten o'clock in the morning.
During the workshop, the lecturer addressed the concepts of internal control and auditing as two of the most important tools for enhancing transparency and reducing financial and administrative corruption in the university environment. She focused on introducing participants to the objectives of internal control and the role of internal auditing in monitoring administrative and financial systems, in addition to explaining the forms of corruption prevalent in institutions, the nature of the irregularities that may occur, and how to confront them through early detection methods and sound procedures for implementation.
The workshop also addressed the legal framework for oversight in Iraq, reviewing the constitutional provisions, laws and instructions in force that regulate the work of oversight bodies, and stressing the importance of committing to the practical application of proactive and subsequent oversight to protect public funds and reduce opportunities for corruption within universities.
The workshop was attended by a number of academics, administrators and students, who helped enrich the discussion by raising questions and comments that deepened understanding and the exchange of experience among the participants. At the close of the workshop, it was affirmed that promoting a culture of integrity and good governance is an essential part of the university's mission to build a clean academic environment that encourages creativity.
