Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, the Women's Affairs Unit at the University Presidency, in cooperation with the Women's Affairs and Human Rights Unit in the Al-Gharraf Sector, organised an awareness seminar on confronting domestic violence on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, in the Discussions Hall, as part of the activities of the 16-day campaign against violence against women. The seminar was presented by Ms. Khairiya Ruwaih Shadood, Head of the Women's Affairs and Human Rights Unit in the Al-Gharraf Sector, and moderated by Lecturer Zainab Jawad Kadhim and Asst. Lect. Ithar Kareem Khalif

The lecturer gave a comprehensive definition of the types of violence prevalent in society, whether physical, psychological, verbal or economic, and addressed its main causes and effects, while reviewing possible mechanisms for limiting and addressing these behaviours.

The seminar also focused on the psychological and social aspects of rehabilitating and supporting women, calling for the promotion of a culture of communication with the bodies concerned with combating domestic violence, and for raising awareness of the legal and social protection mechanisms available to them.

This seminar comes within a series of programmes and activities implemented by the University of Shatrah with the aim of spreading community awareness, stimulating institutional and civil efforts to reduce the phenomenon of violence against women, and building a safer and more stable environment for women in society.
